Alain Prost: 'Max Verstappen a future champion'

The sky is the limit for Max Verstappen, according to F1 legend Alain Prost.

The sky is the limit for Max Verstappen, according to Formula 1 legend Alain Prost.

Just days after his shock switch from Toro Rosso, the 18-year-old made history in Barcelona as he won his first grand prix for Red Bull.

"It's a breath of fresh air for F1," quadruple world champion Prost, an ambassador for Renault, told the French broadcaster Canal Plus.

"He certainly won the best race for a long time with great authority. He made not a single mistake since the beginning of the weekend, resisting the pressure of Raikkonen in the race.

"Although he benefited from the collision of the two Mercedes drivers, his incredible maturity was really surprising. This is the confirmation of a champion. Now one wonders how far he can go, because he is only 18 and it's almost going too fast for him. He's already a star."

Verstappen sits sixth in the drivers' rankings following his success on Sunday.
