Mark Webber concerned for future of Formula 1

Mark Webber describes the current state of Formula 1 as "a sniff too artificial" and reveals that some drivers have spoken to him about endurance racing.

Former Red Bull driver Mark Webber has expressed his disappointment in the shape of Formula 1 and revealed that current drivers have been asking him about the World Endurance Championship.

Webber, 38, left F1 in 2013 and has since been representing Porsche in the increasingly-popular endurance form of the sport.

The Australian described F1 at the moment as "not in great shape" and believes that more drivers could make the switch to endurance racing.

"I think we're disappointed with it as F1 fans," PA quotes Webber as saying. "I am as a past driver and still very much a current observer of it and an educated eye. We all talk. All the drivers that I'm talking with.

"We're disappointed what's going on with the cars, the lap times, it's just not stimulating for the drivers and this is rubbing off, the fans can see this.

"Over the last five or six years, they've got many, many, many things wrong to try and make the sport better and it became a sniff too artificial."

The last few seasons of F1 have been dominated by two teams, with Sebastian Vettel winning four straight titles for Red Bull before Mercedes stole the show last year and won with Lewis Hamilton.
