Sebastian Vettel 'lucky to avoid Felipe Massa, Sergio Perez crash'

Sebastian Vettel says he was lucky not be caught up in a serious crash involving Sergio Perez and Felipe Massa at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel has admitted that he was lucky to escape being caught up in a heavy crash between Felipe Massa and Sergio Perez on the last lap of the Canadian Grand Prix.

The German finished third having overtaken Perez on lap 69 in Montreal, but needed to be alert when Massa came into contact with the Mexican before both cars spun into the wall at turn one, narrowly missing his Red Bull in the process.

Afterwards, Vettel admitted that he had good fortune to avoid the accident.

He told reporters: "I saw they were close to each other, I saw something white coming in the mirror and I opened the car, turned right, and Felipe was in the air coming past.

"I was quite lucky and saw him just in time."

Vettel's teammate Daniel Ricciardo overtook Nico Rosberg late in the race to record his maiden Grand Prix victory.
