Nico Rosberg: 'I'm looking to close the gap on Lewis Hamilton'

Nico Rosberg admits that the Russian Grand Prix represents a great chance to close the gap on championship leader Lewis Hamilton.

Nico Rosberg has revealed his delight at securing pole position for Sunday's Russian Grand Prix.

The German beat teammate Lewis Hamilton after the Briton ran wide of his final flying run in qualifying at Sochi.

While Mercedes can clinch the constructors' championship in Russia, Rosberg has admitted that he has one eye on reducing the gap on Hamilton in the race for the 2015 world title.

He told reporters: "I am very happy. It has been a difficult weekend because of the little running we got. I got some very good laps in and I am happy with that.

"I am just enjoying being on pole at the moment. The constructors' championship is a really important target for us again this weekend, at the same time I am out to reduce the gap on Lewis."

Rosberg has now secured three pole positions, but has not won a race since the Austrian Grand Prix in June.
