Mercedes: Lewis Hamilton "sore from the crash"

Mercedes confirm that Lewis Hamilton is "sore" but otherwise uninjured following his high-speed crash during qualifying for the German Grand Prix at Hockeheimring.

Mercedes have said that Lewis Hamilton should be able to take part in the German Grand Prix tomorrow despite suffering a heavy crash in qualifying this afternoon.

The team confirmed that a brand new brake disc failed on the Briton's car, causing him to spin before colliding with a barrier at the Hockenheimring.

The 2008 world champion was taken to the medical centre following the crash, but the team soon announced on Twitter that Hamilton was "OK but sore from the crash".

Hamilton will start from 16th on the grid for tomorrow's race, having been unable to take part in Q2.
