Lotus: 'Big expectations for Monaco Grand Prix'

Lotus have "big expectations" for the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, according to deputy team principal Federico Gastaldi.

Lotus deputy principal Federico Gastaldi says that improvements in performance will mean that the team has "big expectations" for next weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

The Enstone-based constructor picked up points at the Spanish Grand Prix last time out through Romain Grosjean's eighth-placed finish in Barcelona, and Gastaldi believes that Lotus can continue their form on the streets of Monte Carlo.

He is quoted by F1i as saying: "We need to keep improving the level performance. We are much more competitive than last year – of course we have the new engine but it is also due to the aerodynamic and mechanical improvements made in 2015.

"The car's performance is very solid and we have big expectations for Monaco and indeed for the next upcoming races.

"Enstone keeps doing a great job and I'd like to thank everyone for the big efforts they are making. Our people are our best asset and we have two good experienced drivers. Let's continue to score points and gain places in the field."

Grosjean's teammate Pastor Maldonado was forced to retire from last weekend's race at the Circuit de Catalunya.
