Kimi Raikkonen plays down Ferrari's Jerez display

Kimi Raikkonen says that reliability rather than speed is a priority as the Finn tops the time sheets on Day 1 of pre-season testing.

Kimi Raikkonen has said that speed is not important for his Ferrari team after he was the fastest driver on the opening day of pre-season testing in Spain.

The Finn topped the time sheets in Jerez on Tuesday ahead of Mercedes's Lewis Hamilton on a day when teams completed very few laps as they adjust to radically altered car setups, thanks to new regulations introduced to Formula 1 for 2014.

Raikkonen told AFP: "Everyone wants to see more laps and obviously, we want to do more laps, but it is pretty normal with such a big change. It will take time before we can all go at 100%.

"Lap times don't mean anything right now. We are just trying to get the car working as well as we can."

Raikkonen won his only world championship with Ferrari in 2007.
