Luca di Montezemolo believes that it is "too early" for Sauber's Sergio Perez to make a move to Ferrari.

President of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo, has claimed that Sebastian Vettel could be a target for the Italian team next summer.

Recent speculation suggested that Sauber's Sergio Perez could replace Felipe Massa at the end of the season but Montezemolo insists that the Mexican is not ready for such a move.

When asked about the possibility of Perez joining Ferrari, Montezemolo told Sky Sports News: "Next season is too early. To put a young guy to Ferrari with the pressure of Ferrari, you need more experience."

Montezemolo did admit that Vettel could be a more realistic option to partner Fernando Alonso, comparing the Red Bull driver to Michael Schumacher.

"I think that Vettel is more or less in the condition like when Michael was in Benetton [in the mid-1990s]," he added. "He's young, he's a very good driver and he's making a very good experience. So this could be, of course in the theory, but if you have to ask me the name I have to tell you this name."

Perez finished second at last weekend's Italian Grand Prix.
