Kenny Jackett: 'No clear budget for transfers'

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett admits that there is no "clear budget" for the summer transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has admitted that he has no idea what level of funding he will be given to strengthen his squad this summer.

After missing out on the playoffs by goal difference last season, the Midlands side are destined for a mid-table finish this term following a campaign blighted by the loss of key players to injuries and exits.

Owner Steve Morgan unexpectedly put the club up for sale last September, resulting in financial uncertainty heading into the next transfer window.

"We've certainly asked but there isn't a clear budget," Jackett told the Express & Star. "We can see where we need to improve. At what financial level that is in the summer, that's to be decided. That's possibly consistent with a club up for sale.

"We are trying to do work with the players that we have and develop some younger players. Is it enough right now for us to compete in a very good Championship? Certainly not at the top end. But I don't feel we should lose the strong youth aspect we have, and I would want to encourage it.

"Our equation is trying to develop players and work with the group that we have, with quite a few injuries to forward players that have cost us. I don't know what the situation is with the sale of the club and when there is something to announce I am sure the owner and chief executive will tell me."

Wolves next travel to promotion candidates Hull City on Friday night.
