Benik Afobe brace guides Wolverhampton Wanderers to thumping win

Wolverhampton Wanderers cruise to a comfortable 5-0 win over Rotherham United in their Championship clash at Molineux, thanks to a brace from Benik Afobe.

A brace from Benik Afobe helped Wolverhampton Wanderers to an emphatic 5-0 win over Rotherham United in their Championship clash at Molineux.

The home side edged the opening stages and could have taken the lead when James Henry was afforded space and time outside the box, but his strike flew just past the post.

Rotherham hit back and Adam Hammill should have done a lot better with a headed effort as he latched onto a cross from Matt Derbyshire, only to nod the ball into the arms of Tomasz Kuszczak.

Kenny Jackett's men took the lead in the 21st minute when Kevin McDonald picked out the run of Afobe through the middle, and the striker showed composure to control the ball and fire his shot past Adam Collin.

Wolves doubled their lead minutes later as Afobe turned provider to release Nouha Dicko, who took a touch to get the ball out of his feet before burying a strike past Collin.

The visitors came close to getting a goal back before the break when Derbyshire glanced a header at goal. His effort hit the base of the post, and the striker was unable to turn the rebound past Kuszczak.

In the second half, Wolves managed to control the game as they maintained possession well in midfield to limit the attacking threat of the visitors.

Wolves notched their third goal in the 63rd minute when they hit Rotherham on the counter as Henry released the run of Afobe, and the forward again stayed calm to round Collin and slot the ball home.

The home side made win completely secure when Bakary Sako whipped in a corner from the left and David Edwards rose highest in the penalty area to head past Collin.

Sako piled the misery on the Millers in the 80th minute when he added his side's fifth goal, converting from a tight angle after being teed up by Rajiv van la Parra.
