Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking to set a new club record when they face Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will hope to set a new club record when they meet Southampton at St Mary's on Saturday afternoon.

The West Midlands outfit currently occupy 15th position in the Premier League standings, a consequence of losing 11 of their 21 fixtures during 2022-23.

However, Wolves have fared much better under Julen Lopetegui than they did under his predecessors, collecting 10 points from a possible 18.

Wolves produced their best performance of the season last weekend, taking full advantage of making a fast start to post a 3-0 triumph over Liverpool at Molineux.

As well as now sitting two points clear of the relegation zone, Wolves are also five points ahead of bottom-placed Southampton ahead of what is arguably the biggest match of their campaign.

Wolves will make the trip to the South Coast with one of the worst away records in the division, accumulating just six points from their 10 games on the road.

Nevertheless, they have an opportunity to record a fourth successive win at St Mary's and also post a new club record in the process.

Should Wolves overcome the Saints, it will represent the first time in their history that they have registered five successive victories against the same opponent in the top flight.

Wolves overturned a half-time deficit to defeat Southampton 2-1 on away territory in February 2021, helped by a Pedro Neto wonder goal, before Raul Jimenez netted an equally eye-catching effort to earn his side a 1-0 win in the same fixture in September later that year.

The most recent two encounters have been staged at Molineux, winning by a 3-1 scoreline in January 2022 before edging out Southampton by a solitary Daniel Podence strike in September.

From Southampton's perspective, they will be attempting to end a run of 12 league fixtures at St Mary's without keeping a clean sheet.

In terms of wins, draws and defeats, Southampton's return of one victory, three stalemates and six losses at home is identical to Wolves' efforts on their travels.
