Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly hold talks with former Watford boss Rob Edwards as they look to appoint a new head coach as soon as possible.

Rob Edwards has reportedly emerged as a potential option for the vacant head coach role at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The former Wales international has endured a whirlwind 16 months, first being appointed as head coach of Forest Green Rovers and leading them to promotion to League One in his first season.

However, Edwards then made the decision to accept an offer to join Championship outfit Watford, only to be sacked by the Hornets after just 11 matches.

Given the harsh nature of the 39-year-old's departure, his reputation remains intact, and he has since been heavily linked with several other teams in the Championship.

Nevertheless, according to The Telegraph, Edwards has emerged as an option to link up with Wolves, whether that be as a head coach or featuring in a new coaching setup going forwards.

Edwards is no stranger to Molineux having first represented Wolves as a player between 2004 and 2008, making a total of 111 appearances in all competitions.

Since the end of his playing career in 2013, Edwards has spent time as Under-18s coach, first-team coach, Under-23s head coach and a short stint as interim head coach.

That occurred when Fosun International parted ways with Walter Zenga in October 2016, Edwards overseeing a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers and a 3-2 defeat to Derby County.

The report adds that the Wolves hierarchy intend to assess their options both domestically and abroad having failed to secure the services of Julen Lopetegui as a replacement for Bruno Lage.

Wolves had hoped to appoint the former Sevilla head coach earlier this week, but a deal is now off the table with Lopetegui wanting to remain in Spain with his elderly father, who is unwell.

As it stands, it appears highly likely that Steve Davis and James Collins, of the Under-18s and Under-23s respectively, will continue to take charge of first-team matters this weekend.

Having overseen the 3-0 defeat at Chelsea on October 8, the pair are now trying to prepare the senior squad for Saturday's important Premier League fixture with Nottingham Forest.

Three days later, Wolves are scheduled to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, with the club desperately requiring points in order to move outside of the relegation zone.
