McCarthy was "growly" before Albion game

Mick McCarthy admits he had to apologise for being "growly" with the Wolves squad.

Mick McCarthy has admitted he had to apologise for being "growly" with his team last week.

The Wolves boss said that the "stresses and strains" of being in the relegation zone had made him testy in the run-up to yesterday's derby with West Brom.

"I had to apologise for that," he told the BBC. "I guess [it was] getting to me and I was passing it on to them."

A 3-1 win at Molineux yesterday afternoon lifted Wolves one point clear of the relegation zone with two games still to play.

"It's a huge result, particularly with the position we were in before the game and indeed still are in now, but I've maintained all along when we've been in the bottom three that it's May 22 when we want to be out of it.

"There are two games to play and while we're out of it for the moment we're not safe and we need to stay focused on them. We've got to approach them in exactly the same way and try to be consistent in my manner and my demeanour."

Wolves next face Sunderland away on Saturday.
