Wigan boss Roberto Martinez urges James McCarthy to spend the best years of his career with the Premier League club.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has urged James McCarthy to develop his career with the Premier League club.

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for the Latics in recent weeks and scored both of his team's goals in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers.

"James has got the potential to play anywhere in the world and whenever he's ready we'll never stop him, but he is at a very good club and we want top players to stay here for as long as we can," said Martinez.

McCarthy moved to the DW Stadium from Hamilton Academical in 2009 for around £1.2m.
