Islam Slimani: 'I rejected West Ham United'

Sporting Lisbon centre-forward Islam Slimani has revealed that he turned down the chance to sign for West Ham United during the summer.

It was reported at the time that the 26-year-old had come to the attention of Hammers boss Sam Allardyce as a result of his performances for Algeria at the World Cup.

Slimani has now claimed that the East Londoners did make an approach for his services, but he believes that he made a "good choice" in remaining with Sporting.

"It is true that there was an offer from West Ham, but I was happy with my team and I made a good choice. Stability is positive," he told A Bola.

However, Slimani went on to hint that he could leave his Portuguese employers at the end of the campaign.

"I am focused on finishing the season at full strength and win a title, at least. Then we'll see. Maybe next year," he added.

The striker joined Sporting from CR Belouizdad in 2013.
