Kevin Nolan: 'David Moyes is the right man for West Ham United'

Former West Ham United captain Kevin Nolan believes that David Moyes is the right man to keep the Hammers in the Premier League and take the club forward.

Former West Ham United captain Kevin Nolan has claimed that David Moyes is the right man to take the East London club forward.

Moyes signed a six-month deal at the London Stadium in November as Slaven Bilic's replacement and was tasked with keeping the club in the Premier League.

The Scot has overseen five wins, seven draws and seven losses in 19 games in charge, which keeps the Hammers just three points above the relegation zone.

A recent report in The Telegraph has claimed that the West Ham board will replace Moyes when his contract expires at the end of the season, even if he keeps the club in the top flight.

However, Nolan has thrown his support behind Moyes, telling talkSPORT: "It was a job which was always going to be tough after Slaven - he was a fan favourite who was then sacked, so whoever went in afterwards was always going to find it hard.

"I thought David Moyes did fantastically well to turn it around and I think he will still keep them up, I think they've got enough quality.

"It's one of those things, when you move to a new stadium it's so tough and it takes time to bed in. It happened to Arsenal when they moved from Highbury to the Emirates and it's the same now with Tottenham at Wembley.

"At the minute I feel the fans are a bit discontent because they don't feel like it's home, but the team are fighting every week to try and do something. I speak to them most weeks. I really believe they'll be ok and that David Moyes is the right man for the job at the minute."

West Ham have gone on to refute the report, claiming that "there is absolutely no truth whatsoever to this story".
