West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic: 'Adrian is remaining professional'

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic says that he is pleased with the professionalism of Adrian, despite the goalkeeper suggesting that he wants to leave the club.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has suggested that he understands Adrian's frustration over not being selected for Premier League fixtures.

The Spanish goalkeeper is having to play second fiddle to Manchester City loanee Joe Hart, and the 30-year-old has chosen to speak out about wanting to leave the London Stadium in search of first-team football.

However, Bilic has insisted that he remains pleased with Adrian's conduct, while acknowledging that he would also be unhappy if he were restricted to appearances in cup competitions.

The 49-year-old told reporters: "I can understand players want to play and that's why they are sportsmen at the top level, but we also need a good squad and good keepers.

"Adrian is a top professional and is behaving as I would expect. He's working hard in training to get his chance and is getting his chance in the cup only, but that can change, of course.

"We have a squad and they all want to play and you can't expect the players who aren't playing to be happy. For the sake of the team, we need their professionalism and competition and Adrian is acting like that. If I was on the bench and was asked if I was happy if I was not playing I wouldn't say 'I'm over the moon'."

Adrian has made 125 appearances for the Hammers since joining the club in 2013.
