Sam Allardyce tips Andy Carroll for England recall

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce tips striker Andy Carroll for a swift return to the England squad if he can stay fit.

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has backed Andy Carroll to return to the England squad.

Carroll made his comeback from a knee injury that had kept him out of the Hammers' starting lineup for two months this afternoon, scoring the only goal of the match as West Ham beat Swansea 1-0.

Allardyce believes that the only thing stopping the striker becoming a regular England player is his injury problems, and that if he can get them sorted then he is bound to be recalled to international duty.

"He should [get back in]. As long as he can stay fit between now and the end of the season, get as many games as he can [he will]," said Allardyce.

"There is a lot more to come from Andy. If he produces better performances than he has today, and if he builds his goal tally up, finishes the season on a high, it will be great for us and it will be great for him.

"At the start of the season it was disappointing for him because of the injuries, but hopefully he can finish the season on a high."

Carroll has scored two goals in his 12 appearances for West Ham since joining the club on loan from Liverpool.
