Nicolas Anelka hearing over 'quenelle' gesture to begin today

Nicolas Anelka's disciplinary hearing regarding the West Bromwich Albion forward's controversial 'quenelle' gesture will begin today.

A three-man independent regulatory commission will oversee the case, which could result in a minimum five-match ban from the Football Association.

Anelka made the alleged anti-Semitic gesture during a goal celebration in the Baggies' 3-3 draw with West Ham United back on December 28.

The English governing body charged the Frenchman after the gesture, which is said to have been created by comedian Dieudonne M'bala M'bala, was deemed to be "abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting and/or improper".

Anelka denied the charge and requested a personal hearing, which is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
