Alan Irvine praises Ben Foster display

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine praises the performance of Ben Foster in his side's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea as the keeper made several fine saves at Stamford Bridge.

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine has hailed the performance of Ben Foster in his side's defeat to Chelsea.

The 31-year-old was called on to make several saves the keep the scoreline respectable at Stamford Bridge after the Blues had taken an early two-goal lead, while the Baggies were also reduced to 10 men when Claudio Yacob was sent off in the first half.

Irvine told reporters: "He didn't show any of that frustration in the dressing room. He was very complimentary towards the lads who were in front of him.

"He was terrific. It was the most he'd had to do this season by a long way and I think that was down to their quality. Their passing, their movement, their combination play was excellent. So he had to be in good form.

"We knew we'd have to be anyway, with 11 men. Obviously with 10 it made it even more difficult for him. But it's important we have lots of good players. If teams can get through us, it's nice to know we have a top goalkeeper."

West Brom are 13th in the Premier League with 13 points from their 12 matches.
