Alan Irvine laments early setback in Swansea City defeat

Alan Irvine admits that West Bromwich Albion "could not have made a worse start" in their 3-0 defeat to Swansea City, after falling behind in less than two minutes.

West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine has admitted that his side found it difficult to react after falling behind early on against Swansea City this afternoon.

Nathan Dyer struck with a little over one minute on the clock at the Liberty Stadium to put the Swans ahead, and the hosts eventually prevailed 3-0 to leave West Brom without a win in the Premier League so far this season.

"It couldn't have been a worse start," Irvine told reporters. "You spend a week getting ready for the game, but then someone slips. It made what would've been a tough game an even tougher one.

"And as things were looking like they would settle down, we made another mistake and, before we knew it, we were 2-0 down. They responded well to the half-time break and made fewer unforced errors, kept the ball better and created some chances. But the start, psychologically, was difficult to react to."

The Baggies return to league action in two weeks time when they host Everton at The Hawthorns.
