Darren Fletcher: 'Saido Berahino should follow Stephane Sessegnon example'

West Brom midfielder Darren Fletcher urges Saido Berahino to use his current spell out of the side as motivation to get himself back into the first-team plans.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Darren Fletcher has urged Saido Berahino to use his current spell out of the team as motivation.

Having fallen out with the club over a proposed summer transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in the last window, Berahino has made just eight Premier League starts for the Baggies so far this term, the last of which came in October.

However, Fletcher believes that the youngster should use Stephane Sessegnon, who also found himself out in the cold at the start of the season, as an example in a bid to work his way back into the plans of Tony Pulis.

"Saido is here and a part of a squad and is well-liked. Sess is an example to everyone," Fletcher told reporters.

"The way I always treated it when I wasn't in the team was I took it personally and trained as hard as I could and tried to show the manager and use it as a motivation and a fuel. It is (a fuel) to everyone. Saido is a great kid who is not in the team right now but he's got to keep his head down because he's a great talent and he's got a number of years to play.

"This might be a good learning experience for him."

Berahino has not scored for West Brom since their 1-0 victory over Sunderland on October 17.
