West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has insisted that survival is still his main objective despite a strong start to the season for the Baggies.

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has insisted that he will not get carried away by the Baggies' superb start to the season.

Clarke's side have taken 14 points from his opening seven games in charge, taking West Brom to the dizzy heights of fourth in the Premier League table.

The Baggies boss is adamant that his number one target will remain securing survival despite beginning his first job in management in impressive fashion.

He told Sky Sports News: "We know what our primary objective is and we're firmly focused on that at the moment. It's to ensure another season in Premier League. That's got to be the bottom line for the majority of clubs in the league.

"It takes a lot to surprise me. I knew when I came into this job that I was inheriting a really good group of players but to start this way is really pleasing.

"We are only seven games into the campaign and we are not getting carried away - but we can be pleased with what we have done so far."

Albion continued to make The Hawthorns a fortress with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers yesterday, thanks to goals from James Morrison, Zoltan Gera and Youssouf Mulumbu.
