West Bromwich Albion midfielder George Thorne claims that Baggies boss Roy Hodgson's possible England appointment would come as no surprise.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder George Thorne has claimed that the club's players expected to lose boss Roy Hodgson to England.

Hodgson has emerged as the leading candidate to take over as England boss ahead of Euro 2012, news which did not come as a surprise to Thorne.

"When the news broke it didn't come as a surprise to us. He can definitely do a good job for England. Anyone who says he can't after what happened at Liverpool is talking nonsense. He'll be a great loss to us," the 19-year-old told reporters.

The Baggies currently occupy 10th spot in the Premier League.
