Gianfranco Zola delighted with Manuel Almunia stay

Watford manager Gianfranco Zola hails Manuel Almunia following the goalkeeper's decision to sign a new one-year deal with the Championship club.

Watford manager Gianfranco Zola has hailed Manuel Almunia after the goalkeeper signed a new contract with the Championship club.

The 36-year-old former Arsenal shot-stopper penned a one-year extension at Vicarage Road on Friday.

"It's fantastic that Manuel has signed a new contract for next season," Zola told the club's official website. "His experience and influence are so important for us and the impact he had at Watford last season was magnificent."

Almunia kept 11 clean sheets in 43 games for Watford last season as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.
