The hosts dominated the game's chances in the first half, as Adrian kept out a Nathan Ake header from close range, before Miguel Britos headed over the bar from a Ben Watson free kick.

Ighalo came close to finding the opener before half time when the former Udinese man forced a reaction save from Adrian, before the Nigerian was rewarded for his persistence on 39 minutes when he converted Ake's centre.

Watford doubled their lead after the break, as Ighalo pounced onto an inviting Ikechi Anya cross to score his seventh goal of the season.

The hosts continued to dominate the second half, as Ighalo was denied a hat-trick by Adrian, before Troy Deeney twice fired wide.

West Ham almost pulled a goal back before the final whistle, as Enner Valencia hit the post after an error from Watford defender Craig Cathcart, but the side's hopes of a comeback were ended on 84 minutes as James Collins was dismissed for a heavy challenge on Ighalo.
