The Spaniard previously guided the Hornets to a mid-table finish in the 2015-16 season.

New Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores said it was an easy decision to return to his former club for a second spell in charge at Vicarage road.

Javi Gracia left the Hornets on September 7 and was replaced by Sanchez Flores, who became the club's ninth manager to take the helm in just over eight years.

The Spaniard previously guided Watford to a mid-table finish in 2015/16 season during his only year in charge of the club after they gained promotion to the Premier League the year before.

"It was easy to say yes," Sanchez Flores said when asked about his decision to return.

"The moment I left Watford...the chance to come back was left open because of the circumstances before I left. Anything was possible.

"It's three years later. It was a great possibility to come back and work for this club.

"The passion is the same. I know the mission of the club. I felt able to work for Watford again. It was easy to say yes."

The Hornets have managed to score just two goals this season and have gone eight matches without a win since April, but Sanchez Flores insists the squad is better than the one he oversaw during his previous tenure.

When asked whether the squad was good enough to avoid relegation, he said: "Of course, the quality is better than I had three years ago.

"I was in love with all my players three years ago, but of course football is growing and improving.

"Watford improve a lot with the squad. The competition is still hard for us.

"Every single game will be hard, and strong, the competition is open, anything is possible."

Watford currently sit bottom of the Premier League with just one point from their four matches in the competition, and two points behind Norwich, Aston Villa and Wolves.

On Watford's position, Sanchez Flores said he was surprised to see where the club was, adding: "I've never seen Watford in the bottom, to be honest.

"Three years ago, never, and the last three years it was impossible to think about that, but football is very hard, remember, it's very hard, it's very equal and it's very different.

"Every single match is a pure competition so everything is possible, so we need to get out of this position as soon as possible."
