Nuno plays down Valencia chances

Nuno refuses to believe that his Valencia side are effectively in the Champions League proper following their 3-1 first-leg win over Monaco.

Nuno has said that he refuses to believe his Valencia side placed one foot in the Champions League group stages following their first-leg 3-1 win at home to Monaco last night.

Goals from Rodrigo and Daniel Parejo, either side of Mario Pasalic's second-half equaliser, gave them a 2-1 lead before Sofiane Feghouli struck late on at the Mestalla to boost Los Che's chances of progression in the principality next week.

A 2-0 home win on Tuesday would see Leonardo Jardim's side - who reached the quarter-finals last term - progress, and Nuno says that sitting back is not an option at Stade Louis II.

"The result is there now; our objective was to win this tie. Now we will be going to Monaco to compete and we know what awaits us," he told reporters.

"Nothing is definitive in this competition and we will be going there with the same ambition to win. There are no favourites."

Valencia have been absent from the group stages since the 2012-13 season.
