USA striker Jozy Altidore has said that he is confident he can put a difficult season with Sunderland behind him to make an impact at this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
Altidore scored just two goals in 39 appearances for the Black Cats last term following a £6.5m move from AZ Alkmaar last year.
"Sometimes it just goes like that — there is no other way to put it," Altidore told reporters.
"Sometimes you just don't have that streak that you need. You have got to understand it's going to get better, and it will. It always does.
"When it comes to the World Cup, the season is behind you. Everything that matters now is what you do going forward when [Jurgen Klinsmann] picks that team. Nobody cares about what you did a year or two or three years ago. It's what you do now."
Altidore also had a loan stint with Hull City during the 2009-10 season.
