Oscar Washington Tabarez: 'We won't rush Luis Suarez back'

Uruguay manager Oscar Washington Tabarez insists that they will not rush Luis Suarez back from injury before he is fully fit.

Uruguay manager Oscar Washington Tabarez has insisted that they will not rush Luis Suarez back from injury before he is ready.

Suarez faces a race to be fit in time for this summer's World Cup in Brazil having undergone surgery on his knee last week.

Uruguay remain optimistic that the national team's all-time leading goalscorer will recover in time for the tournament, but Tabarez ruled out the possibility of trying to speed up the healing process.

"What happens with Luis will depend on the evolution of his knee," Tabarez told reporters.

"We have no doubt his enthusiasm and condition but our main concern is the health of the player. No acceleration of events are going to help."

Suarez is coming off the back of a fine domestic season with Liverpool that saw him score a record-equalling 31 league goals as well as being named FWA and PFA Player of the Year.
