Team GB and Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy has admitted that the crowd reaction to him during the Olympics has been "refreshing".
The Welshman, who has been no stranger to jeering supporters during his career, has been heavily praised for his involvement in Stuart Pearce's side, who booked a place in the quarter-finals following a 1-0 win over Uruguay.
"To play just a tiny little fraction, to see people coming together and wanting you to do well has been a huge honour," the London Evening Standard quotes Bellamy as saying.
"When I play football, it is difficult sometimes, the abuse you can receive. You have to learn to carry broad shoulders. But this has been refreshing. People have been so positive and it has been a pleasure to be involved in."
Meanwhile, Team GB's women are also into the quarter-finals and will face Canada.
