Switzerland striker Mario Gavranovic ruled out of World Cup

Switzerland forward Mario Gavranovic returns home from the World Cup after suffering a serious knee injury.

Switzerland forward Mario Gavranovic has been ruled out for the remainder of the World Cup after suffering a serious knee injury.

The 24-year-old tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a training session on Saturday.

The Swiss Football Association has now confirmed that Gavranovic will fly back from Brazil today (Sunday) to undergo surgery.

Switzerland return to action on Tuesday when they face Argentina in the second round.
