Zavon Hines 'turns down Swindon Town deal'

Former England Under-21 international Zavon Hines rejects the chance to sign a contract with Swindon Town following a trial period with the club.

Former England Under-21 international Zavon Hines has revealed that he has rejected the chance to sign a contract with Swindon Town following a trial period with the League Two outfit.

Hines, 28, joined Southend United on a six-month contract last December, but the forward only made five appearances for the Shrimpers before departing the club on a free transfer at the end of last season.

The former West Ham United youngster spent time with Swindon in a bid to win a contract, but the Englishman has admitted that the move 'did not feel right'.

"I'm still looking for a club, I was at Swindon for the past few weeks training, they offered me a deal, but I didn't feel it was right so I'm still looking to see what is out there," Hines told The Sun.

"My family comes first and I have to think of them before I make a decision and I don't want to move too far away and uproot them only for six months or a year. It's a lot to think about but it's part of football and that what they (partner) signed up for when we got together.

"To be fair I was out of contract last summer and I was injured, so I'm used to the situation and can deal with it mentally and physically."

Hines has also previously turned out for Coventry City, Burnley, Bournemouth, Bradford City and Dagenham & Redbridge.
