Michu leaves Swansea by mutual consent

Premier League side Swansea City part company with Spanish attacker Michu, 29, by mutual consent.

Swansea City have parted company with Spanish attacker Michu by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old joined the Welsh club from Rayo Vallecano in 2012 and scored 18 times in his debut Premier League season.

The forward only managed two league goals during an injury-hit 2013-14 season, however, and was sent on loan to Napoli in July 2014, where he made just five appearances due to an ongoing ankle problem.

The Spanish international returned to the Liberty Stadium in the summer, but had not featured for the Premier League side this season and has now been granted a free transfer with his deal due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

"Swansea City have parted company with Spanish forward Michu by mutual consent," read a statement on Swansea's official website.

"Both parties have reached a financial agreement over the remainder of the 29-year-old's contract, which ran until the end of this season. The agreement will allow Michu to become a free agent and assist him to find a new club straight away in order to kick-start his playing career again in January.

"Everyone at Swansea City would like to thank Michu for his service to the club, and wish him well in the future."

Michu was linked with a £25m move to Arsenal following his debut season at Swansea.
