Swansea City go down at Bournemouth

Jefferson Montero scores his first Swansea City goal but the Welsh outfit suffer a pre-season setback as they lose 3-1 to Championship Bournemouth at Dean Court.

Marc Pugh scored twice as Bournemouth surprised Swansea City in their pre-season friendly at Dean Court tonight.

Ecuadorian international winger Jefferson Montero scored his first goal for the Premier League outfit, but the Swans could not overturn a three-goal deficit.

Pugh gave the Cherries a 28th-minute lead by heading home a Simon Francis cross, after Swansea youngster Lee Lucas had tested Benjamin Buchel with an early free kick at the other end.

Gerhard Tremmel kept out Brett Pitman's low drive on 37 minutes, but the Championship outfit did double their lead before the break as Pugh drilled a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

They went even further ahead seven minutes after the restart as Pitman nestled from the penalty spot after Angel Rangel, who is preparing for his eighth campaign at the Liberty Stadium, handled inside the area.

Montero had already created a couple of second-half chances for himself and he got off the mark for his new club with a shot that took a deflection on its way past Buchel on 68 minutes.

It was too little, too late for the Swans, though, as Garry Monk's side suffered a pre-season setback.
