Wilfried Bony scores brace in comfortable victory for Swansea City

Wilfried Bony scores twice as Swansea City ease to a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa at the Liberty Stadium.

Wilfried Bony scored twice as Swansea City thrashed Aston Villa 4-1 at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Garry Monk's side made the perfect start as Bony collected a pass from Jonjo Shelvey before calmly slotting the ball past Brad Guzan in the ninth minute.

Villa responded well to falling behind, despite Swansea's bright start, and the visitors were level midway through the first half when Gabriel Agbonlahor converted an inch-perfect Marc Albrighton cross.

Swansea edged ahead once again just four minutes later as Shelvey handed his side the lead with an unstoppable 40-yard half-volley which left Guzan helpless.

Bony could have doubled his tally before the break, but he was denied by a fine save from Villa's American goalkeeper.

The influential Shelvey continued to make an impact with his runs forward from deep after the interval, with the Liverpool midfielder firing just wide after linking well with Bony once again.

Villa had little answer for Swansea's attacking play as the visiting defence watched a Jonathan de Guzman effort drift past the post after another example of poor marking.

Swansea found the third goal their dominance deserved in the 73rd minute when Hernandez collected a cross at the back post, before calmly curling the ball home.

The hosts secured successive victories for the first time since December 2012 when Nathan Baker gifted them a penalty after bringing down Marvin Emnes inside the box.

Bony stepped up from 12 yards to beat Guzan and complete an emphatic win for Swansea.
