Garry Monk stresses caution over Swansea City start

Swansea City manager Garry Monk stresses that reaching 40 points is still their first goal - despite being almost a third of the way there after just three games.

Garry Monk has played down Swansea City's flawless start to their Premier League campaign and insisted that survival remains of the utmost importance.

Swansea thumped West Bromwich Albion 3-0 on Saturday for their third successive win as Monk presided over the club's best start to a season since 1923.

Nevertheless, the 35-year-old coach is refusing to get carried away by the Welsh club's top-of-the-table status and says that reaching the 40-point barrier remains their goal.

"We know what we are. We're not pretending to be someone else," he told reporters.

"Even though where we are in the league, we understand that - at this club and where we've come from and how we are - realistically, trying to get to that 40-point barrier as soon as possible will always be our target as a club.

"It's only our fourth year in the Premier League and obviously expectations come with winning games, but I think we have to understand where we are and what we need to do and try to get there as soon as possible."

With the international break halting the domestic calendar, Monk has two weeks in which to prepare for a clash away to co-leaders Chelsea on September 13.
