Ryan Giggs: 'Swansea City did not match my ambitions'

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs hit backs at claims that he was overlooked for the Swansea City managerial job due to an 'underwhelming interview'.

Ryan Giggs has revealed that he was in the running to take over as manager of Swansea City but was left unhappy with "mixed messages" coming out of the club.

The 42-year-old was in contention to replace Francesco Guidolin, who was axed less than a year after taking over following an underwhelming start to the season.

Bob Bradley was given the nod to replace Guidolin once the decision to dispense with the Italian was made, and reports at the time suggested that Giggs had been overlooked due to an 'underwhelming interview' with chairman Huw Jenkins and American owners Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan.

Giggs has hit back at these claims, however, telling ITV Sport: "I met with [Swansea] a couple of times but in the end there was just mixed messages from the football side and the ownership side of the club. I just felt their ambitions did not really match mine."

The Welshman spent 24 years at Old Trafford in a playing capacity, before hanging up his boots in 2014 to take up coaching roles under David Moyes and then Louis van Gaal.
