Sunderland and Norwich City have reportedly made contact with free agent Ron Vlaar.
The Netherlands international has been without a club since his contract expired with Aston Villa during the summer.
He has spent the last few months training with his first club AZ to aid his recovery from a knee injury, but having recently returned to fitness, it is believed that the 30-year-old is ready to move back to the Premier League.
According to The People, that has alerted Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce and Norwich's Alex Neil, both of whom are eager to bolster their defensive ranks.
The report adds that Vlaar has also received offers from teams in Germany.
