Sunderland 1-0 Wigan Athletic

Steven Fletcher scores the only goal of the game as 10-man Wigan Athletic lose to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland have maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable victory over 10-man Wigan Athletic at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats, who had drawn all four of their previous Premier League matches prior to today, dominated the first half without reward.

However, their task was made a little easier two minutes after the break when Jordi Gomez was shown a straight red card for a reckless tackle on Danny Rose.

It took Martin O'Neill's men just four minutes to make their numerical advantage count, as James McClean's cross was driven home by Steven Fletcher from eight yards.

The goal was Fletcher's fifth in as many games for Sunderland.
