David Meyler thanks Niall Quinn for all the help that he provided him with during his stint at Sunderland.

Sunderland midfielder David Meyler has thanked Niall Quinn for his help since he joined the club.

Quinn ended his six-year boardroom association with the Black Cats earlier today, with reports suggesting that he was keen to spend more time with his family.

Meyler was brought to Wearside while Quinn was chairman and the 22-year-old has paid tribute to the former Republic of Ireland international.

"Like to say thanks to Niall Quinn for everything he has done for me since I came here. Great man and great servant to SAFC absolute legend," Meyler wrote on Twitter.

Quinn also spent six years as a player with Sunderland.
