Stoke City confirm signing of Saido Berahino on five-and-a-half year deal

Stoke City announce the signing of striker Saido Berahino on a five-and-a-half year deal, bringing his disappointing recent spell at West Bromwich Albion to an end.

Saido Berahino has ended his 13-year association with West Bromwich Albion by completing a big-money transfer to Stoke City.

The 23-year-old joins the Potters on a five-and-a-half year contract in a move worth up to £15m depending on various performance-based targets for both the player and his new club.

Berahino has played just 245 minutes for the Baggies this season and has not featured at all in the first-team squad since October, having been sent to a conditioning camp by boss Tony Pulis in October due to concerns over his fitness.

After rejecting the offer of a new contract at The Hawthorns, Pulis accepted Stoke's latest bid to bring the long-running saga to an end, 18 months after the Potters first made an approach for the England international hopeful.

Speaking to the club's official website, Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes said: "It's no secret that we have been looking to bring Saido to the club for a long time and to suggest that we are pleased to have finally concluded the deal is an understatement.

"We've signed a young English striker who has already proven his ability in the Premier League. After a frustrating period he's now desperately keen to reignite his career and we look forward to seeing him do that with us."

Berahino, who scored 23 league goals in 105 appearances for the Baggies, becomes City's second January signing following the permanent arrival of Lee Grant.
