Mark Hughes: 'FA right to ask Garry Monk to clarify referee comments'

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes believes that the FA was right to ask Swansea City manager Garry Monk to clarify his comments about referee Michael Oliver.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes believes that the Football Association was right to contact Swansea City boss Garry Monk about explaining his comments regarding referee Michael Oliver.

Monk said that the match official made a "disgusting decision" to award a penalty to Stoke after Victor Moses fell to ground following contact from Angel Rangel.

Today, the English governing body announced that it has contacted Monk about clarifying his comments.

"I think it's right the FA ask Garry to clarify his comments," Hughes said in today's press conference. "I made my feelings known, it's a fairly strong view. It's disappointed me because it's overshadowed a good performance. Second half we deserved to win the game anyway.

"We would have won the game anyway irrespective of the incidents that have had so much attention. Garry is a very articulate young man but maybe on that occasion used the wrong words. That can happen. Victor says he felt body contact and was impeded. Photos have verified that."

Monk also labelled Moses a cheat for going to ground.
