Peter Coates convinced Ibrahim Afellay has no injury concerns

New Stoke City signing Ibrahim Afellay has no medical issues, according to chairman Peter Coates.

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has insisted that the club are happy with the physical condition of new winger Ibrahim Afellay.

The Potters announced that they had signed the Dutch winger on a free transfer from Barcelona earlier this week, where he spent four injury-hit seasons.

Coates is quoted as saying by The Sentinel: "He has obviously had a medical and our medical staff are satisfied with his condition.

"He also played a decent number of games last season [on loan] and so that is also very encouraging. We have every expectation of him being available for selection.

"So we are very pleased to have completed the signing because he is clearly a very good player with a very good past pedigree."

Afellay is Stoke's eighth summer signing.
