Barcelona midfielder Xavi claims that if Gareth Bale is worth £100m, then there is not enough money in football to buy Lionel Messi.

Barcelona midfielder Xavi has claimed that there is "not enough money in football" to buy his teammate Lionel Messi.

With talk of a £105m offer from Real Madrid for Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale, the Barca midfielder makes the comparison with Messi.

"There have been some big transfer fees already this summer," Xavi told The Mirror. "And now £100m for Gareth Bale.

"I'm sure he's a good player, but when you're talking about £100m for players like that, then there can't be enough money in football to buy Leo."

Messi scored as Barca beat Santos 8-0 yesterday in a pre-season friendly.
