Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Davinson Sanchez is reportedly in talks with French outfit Strasbourg over a permanent move to Ligue 1.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez is reportedly in discussions over a proposed move to French outfit Strasbourg.

The Colombia international endured a forgettable 2022-23 campaign in North London and was memorably jeered by his own fans in a 3-2 home defeat to Bournemouth in April.

Sanchez was introduced to replace the injured Clement Lenglet, but fingers were pointed at the 27-year-old for his role in two of the Cherries' goals on the day.

Acting head coach Cristian Stellini spared Sanchez any further ill treatment by taking him off midway through the second half, and captain Hugo Lloris admitted that he had never seen anything like the booing his teammate had received.

Ahead of the expiry of his contract in 2024, Sanchez is expected to be sold by Tottenham this summer, and his agents are working to find the former Ajax man a new club.

Galatasaray are thought to have submitted a verbal offer for Sanchez, but according to journalist Matteo Moretto, Strasbourg have also shown an interest in the defender.

The Ligue 1 side - who were recently taken over by Chelsea owners BlueCo - are said to have already started negotiations with Tottenham, but no agreement has been reached.

Furthermore, Sanchez has not given the green light to personal terms with Strasbourg either, and he is believed to earn in the region of £65,000 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs paid £36.5m to bring Sanchez to the Premier League from Ajax in 2017, but the Lilywhites will not be able to recoup anything close to that premium figure for the South American.

Since touching down in the English capital, Sanchez has scored five goals and set up one more in 205 matches for Tottenham, helping the Lilywhites reach the 2018-19 Champions League final.

Sanchez made 24 appearances in all tournaments last season, but he started just eight Premier League games, having failed to impress Antonio Conte and Ryan Mason.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is hardly blessed with options in the heart of defence at present, but Spurs are believed to be on the verge of signing Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips.

The 18-year-old is expected to join the North London club for a £3m fee, and he could supposedly fly out to Asia to link up with the Lilywhites for the remainder of their pre-season tour.

Phillips's arrival is not expected to have an effect on Tottenham's pursuit of a big-money centre-back, as the Lilywhites keep tabs on Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven and Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba.
