Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly open to mutually terminating Ivan Perisic's contract to facilitate a move to Hajduk Split.

Tottenham Hotspur may reportedly allow Ivan Perisic to sign for Hajduk Split on a free transfer.

Last summer, Spurs were able to attract the Croatia international from Inter Milan in order to bring some versatility to the left-hand side of the pitch.

The expectation was that the 34-year-old would predominantly feature in the final third, but many of his appearances came from left-back or left wing-back.

Although Spurs endured one of their worst campaigns in recent memory, Perisic proved to be a valuable squad member, contributing one goal and eight assists from 23 starts and 11 substitute outings in the Premier League.

With a year left on his contract, Perisic is currently due to feature in the squad of recently-appointed head coach Ange Postecoglou.

However, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on Twitter, the versatile attacker is closing in on a return to his homeland with Hajduk Split.

Perisic was born in the Croatian city and spent time in the club's youth system, but he has never made a single appearance in Croatia since turning professional.

Hajduk Split finished in second place in the top flight last season, earning a spot in the Europa Conference League third qualifying round, and there is seemingly a desire from all parties to complete a transfer.

Spurs are said to be open to a mutual termination of Perisic's contract, something which would free up space on their wage bill when they do not have European football for 2023-24.

With James Maddison having been added to Spurs' options in the final third, Perisic faces the prospect of falling down the pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Furthermore, Postecoglou has been tipped to switch to a back four, something which would theoretically further reduce Perisic's chances of regular starts.

Destiny Udogie, who spent last season on loan at Udinese, is also due to stay in Postecoglou's squad and is in line to challenge Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon at left-back.

As it stands, Spurs have made just one sale - that of Harry Winks to Leicester City - with more exits expected on the back of pushing through permanent deals for Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski.
