Tim Sherwood: 'I need to be given full control of transfers'

Tim Sherwood insists that he must be given full control of Tottenham Hotspur's transfer activity if he remains at the club.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood has claimed that he must be given full control of transfers in the summer if he remains in charge at the club beyond the end of the current campaign.

Reports continue to suggest that Sherwood, who replaced Andre Villas-Boas in December, could be on his way out of White Hart Lane after Spurs lost ground on their rivals for a spot in the Champions League.

However, the former England midfielder has once again insisted that he is expecting to be overseeing the club's transfer activity ahead of next season.

"Nobody else will come in here unless I sanction it. You can't work any other way. The manager has got to work with the players so, unless he gets the players he wants, it's always going to be an uphill task," Sherwood told journalists in a press conference previewing Tottenham's Europa League game against Benfica.

"I think we have to make sure we see a lot more of these guys before they come in, not just the highlights, because we've got to make sure we do our recruitment job on them.

"My future's out of my hands but I believe I'll be here next year. I'm planning for next season."

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has been repeatedly linked with a move to Spurs following the World Cup in Brazil.
