Blackburn Rovers manager Henning Berg is reportedly hopeful of signing Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel before today's loan deadline.

Friedel, 41, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season, spent eight years at Ewood Park between 2000 and 2008.

Championship clubs have until 5pm to sign players on loan and, according to The Mirror, Berg wants to sign the USA international on a temporary deal today and then make the move permanent in January for a fee of £500,000.

Southampton are also understood to be interested in signing Friedel in January.
