Recently-appointed head coach Ange Postecoglou says that he has been given no assurances that Harry Kane will remain at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he has not asked for any assurances over the future of Harry Kane.

Soon after the end of the season, Postecoglou departed Celtic to sign a long-term contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, tasked with trying to earn a return to the Champions League.

The Greek-Australian has been able to add to his squad, most notably acquiring the services of James Maddison from Leicester City, but developments involving Kane are a daily topic of debate.

Kane has just a year remaining on his contract, a scenario which has inevitably led to interest from elsewhere with Bayern Munich seemingly standing as the frontrunners.

Thomas Tuchel's side are said to have made two bids for the England international, with the latest offer allegedly in the region of €80m (£68.4m).

However, if reports are to be believed, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is against cashing in on the 30-year-old this summer, regardless of the risk of a free transfer in 2024.

At his first press conference as Spurs boss on Monday, Postecoglou was naturally quizzed excessively on the future of Kane and his thoughts on the situation.

Although Postecoglou indicated for the large part that he wanted to remain on the periphery of the situation, he claimed that he has never sought any guarantees that the club's all-time leading goalscorer will remain available to him for 2023-24.

Postecoglou told reporters: "I haven't had any assurances and I wouldn't expect any assurances, because when you're dealing with these kind of things you're never dealing with definites or certainties in anything in life.

"That's just my nature. I just kind of go along and try to concentrate on the things I know right now. What I know right now is that Harry is part of this squad and he's looking forward to coming back to training and being among these players and starting to work together."

Earlier in the media briefing, Postecoglou hinted that he would speak with Kane to listen to his views over how Spurs can improve going forward.

The North Londoners have just endured their worst campaign for 14 years, finishing in eighth position in the Premier League table and missing out on European football.

Spurs are on the brink of adding a further attacking player to their ranks with Manor Solomon having agreed to leave Shakhtar Donetsk for the Lilywhites after his productive stint on loan at Fulham.
